The Wine Gann Family Cellars Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc is produced from our Estate Vineyard in Healdsburg. Our vineyard benefits from morning summer fog that rolls through the Chalk Hill gap and North along the Russian River Valley. A combination of cool mornings and evenings, along with warmer afternoons, allows the grapes to develop their complex flavors and crisp acidity. The juice was fermented in French oak barrels utilizing three strains of yeast, each adding a different layer of complexity. The wine was aged seven months sur lie. Growing Season & Harvest The 2005 season started three weeks ahead of schedule as unseasonably warm March weather caused an early bud break. Summer was characterized by an extremely mild and temperate growing season which allowed for steady maturation. With a record crop, we had 30 tons of excess fruit and perfect rain-free fall weather to create this Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc wine. Our picking crews harvested this fruit on November 30th, one day before the season’s first large rain storm arrived. We carefully handselected 6 tons of fruit that had developed botrytis, or “noble rot”, a key component of developing an elegant Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.
